Engagement sessions might be my favorite type of session! So I am so excited to be talking about them today with you all! Engagement sessions have the opportunity to be one of your favorite parts of wedding planning too, even if you don’t like taking pictures! Why? Because they are a celebration of this uniquely exciting time that you will never get back and there is no pressure to make it perfect!! But, it can be stressful thinking about planning or even going to your engagement session! But I am sharing 3 of my favorite tips to make your engagement session more fun and stress-free so that you can focus on what matters: your love and happiness about your marriage!

1. Have a preview date night before your session!

When Josh and I started talking about our engagement session, I could immediately tell he wasn’t excited about taking pictures. We love taking pictures together, but it doesn’t usually last an hour and a half or include people we don’t know behind the camera. I even felt a little nervous because I had only met our photographer one other time. I didn’t know how to pose ourselves to create great pictures and wasn’t sure what to expect.

To avoid this situation with my own brides and grooms, I always suggest having a preview party date night! Grab a glass of your favorite wine or champagne and look through my blog at 3-4 engagement sessions! Scroll through the pictures and talk about what you love most about the pictures! By previewing other engagement session blogs, you and your fiance will be more prepared when you arrive! You’ll know to expect to be close, kissing, and laughing a ton! And don’t worry about how to make them happen, I’ll be sure to tell you everything you need to know!!

2. Bring a bottle of champagne with glasses for a toast or some confetti for a fun celebration shot!

I absolutely LOVE when my couples take the opportunity to do something fun during their shoot!  Toasting for your engagement is one of the best ways to celebrate and have a little fun during your shoot! Plus, enjoying a glass of champagne helps to release any jitters you may still have after your preview party! Your engagement session is meant to be fun, so why not?! Pro Tip: Bring more than one bottle to create a fun spraying shot too!

3. Plan a date around your engagement session!

I always encourage my couples to go out to dinner after their engagement session because why not?! After your session, you will be dressed up from your session, so why not make a night of it?! Being engaged is one of the most exciting times of your life, and you will only have engagement pictures done once! Let’s make it a big deal! You could also plan to have a picnic, visit a winery, or explore the city after your session to continue the fun.

Did you do something different before or after your engagement session that you absolutely loved?! Share below in the comments!
